Is Stock Trading For Everyone?

Oct 15, 2008: 12:17 PM

I’m a gambler - I like taking big risks and 90% of the time, my gut instincts have been right. But for some odd reason, I’m having absolutely no luck when it comes to trading stocks. In spite of having TIM right next to me giving me unlimited stock advice, I tend to ignore his rules and trade stocks that are not even on his radar. And as expected - I end up losing big. Why is it that I’m trading so erratically? Am I a victim of the Erratic Trading Syndrome (I just made this up - don’t google it!)? It got me thinking - is stock trading for everyone? Am I the 99% of so called traders who lose money consistently in the markets? Have I become a statistic?

I enjoy going to the casinos - 90% of the time I make money on the blackjack table. My girlfriend, on the other hand, hates the casino. So the one time that I did take her to one, I sat on a table and walked out doubling my money in 2 hands of blackjack. She was still not impressed. But now, I’m applying my same gambling instincts to the stock market and it’s just not working. I bought 50 shares of RIMM at $66 when I thought it hit the bottom - and look at it today ($57)! I bought 200 shares of MS at $22 thinking that was the bottom - and look at it now ($18). I’m not sure why I even play these big stocks - none of them have made me any kind of money - ever. Today I shorted MKTS after listening to Tim’s alerts and I finally made some money.

So - should I be listening to Tim from now on and forget all my gambling habits when it comes to trading? I guess I will find out on friday - Tim is scheduled for a full day 9 hour seminar in Vancouver over at a hip conference facility in Yaletown. If you’re like me and not sure why you’re losing money in the markets, I suggest you come down and learn a thing or two from a guy who’s consistently made money in the market (up 107% this year alone).

Tim’s going to be in Vancouver for a few extra days as well - we have a meeting set up with the famous John Chow thursday night and will be shooting additional footage for TIMraw all throughout the weekend at various Vancouver locations. If you’re from Vancouver and want to come say hi - shoot me an email.

Hopefully my next trading related blog post will have a big green arrow besides it to show I’ve finally made some money in the market.

A Web Designer’s Laptop

Oct 14, 2008: 8:40 PM

I’ve been in the market for a few months now looking to get a new laptop… and today’s announcement from Apple came at just the right time. If you haven’t noticed this before, we at Pallian like all toys new and shiny… and the new MacBook has just been added to our shopping list. What sold me on this mac was not really the way it looked, but the way they designed and engineered it. Watch the video below to see how they managed to make this remarkable laptop with a single block of aluminum:

Also, wanted to update you with Tim’s Vancouver seminar - we now have a location! If you’re from Vancouver and want to catch Tim, come to our all day seminar at 1140 Homer Street this friday from 8am till 5pm. Cost is $495 for a 1 day session and it includes a free copy of our latest DVD - TIMraw. It’s a sleek, modern space with a bunch of 60″ high def TV’s and projectors. The 9 hour session will include lunch and snacks and since it is on a trading day, you’re almost guaranteed to make a live trade during the session.

Sign up for the seminar HERE.

A Web Designer’s Chair

Oct 12, 2008: 10:07 PM

Today I think I found my dream chair. I know, it’s just a chair - but when you’re like me and sit on one for 15-18 hours a day, you really begin to appreciate a good chair. Herman Miller, the iconic chair manufacturer just announced their latest chair - Embody. This futuristic looking office chair was designed by Bill Stumpf (also designer of the Aeron) inspired by a pair of comfortable shoes(!) and has all kinds of features and customizable settings to promote health while toiling away at the computer. One interesting component of the chair is the 52 flexors designed to mimic the human spine, that flex and bend to support the body. Although it has a price tag of $1,495, I think it’s a worthwhile business expense :-)

And if you’re not sold yet, check out THIS video by Fortune.

The Week That Was

Oct 11, 2008: 2:20 PM

It’s been a busy week here at Pallian Creative - lots of new projects and developments under way. Lots to blog about!

First off, I wanted to introduce to you the all new TIM STORE. We’ve revamped and simplified it, making it easy for anyone to get into trading. Tim preaches a no BS approach - learn to recognize and read chart patterns and stay disciplined. His track record has proven over and over again that if you’re disciplined, you’re almost guaranteed to make money no matter what the market conditions are. Check out all his instructional DVDs and alert services in the all new TIM store (click below):

TIM Store: Invest In Your Stock Trading Education

Secondly, I wanted to introduce our new sponsor: Beacon Equity. Beacon provides a free alerts service for small-cap traders and by signing up HERE, you’ll receive a free 15 Price Patterns Every Investor Must Recognize e-book. Beacon Equity has also hired us to design a new website for them to be launched by mid-november… so look out for that as well.

I also wanted to introduce another new venture between TIM and Pallian: Dine Library. It’s a pet project we’ve been working on the side for the past few weeks and we’ll be launching it by November. Food has always been a passion for us and it felt selfish that we could not share that passion with you, our readers. Hence Dine Library - a no BS approach to fine dining. We’ll release more details about this project soon - in the meantime, visit the site and sign up to receive launch updates.

On other news - Tim will be in Vancouver this week for the first edition of TIM Seminars. If you’re from or near Vancouver, I highly recommend you come and join us. More details on the seminar HERE. Everyone attending will receive a free copy of TIM Raw DVD as well (retails at $500).

And finally, to end the week with a little laughter, here’s a video the Huffington Post compiled called The McCain Wander. Enjoy!

PS: Happy Thanksgiving to all Canadians!

Dubai To Build World’s Tallest Tower - Once Again

Oct 5, 2008: 10:43 PM

You’ve got to give it to the arabs, especially the ones from Dubai - the city I called home for the first 18 years of my life. Today, Nakheel (the guys behind the palm shaped islands) announced they’re building the world’s tallest tower in Dubai. Sounds ambitious - especially since they already have the world’s tallest tower in Dubai. So why make another one?

The undeniable underlying phallic symbolism could provide the answer. Dubai has two main developers - Nakheel and Emaar. Nakheel has always been the ambitious one - in early 2000, they announced the Palm Islands, then the World Islands and now building the Palm Trump Hotel and Tower. Emaar on the other hand were building mostly small residential properties. They were profitable but not ambitious. But in early 2004, Emaar woke up one morning and decided to unzip and show the world how truly phallus they were by introducing Burj Dubai - a $4.1 BILLION tower to be the world’s tallest. I visited Dubai last December and I’ve seen this truly remarkable phallic tower - it’s one erect tower that you can literally see from anywhere in Dubai. If you ever got lost in Dubai - you just got to look out for the Burj and you know instantly where you are. It’s the sun and the moon for weary arabs. They had hoped that no one in their lifetime would be as ambitious as them to build a taller tower.

But today, all those hopes has been squashed. Nakheel woke up this morning with a giant Viagra overdose and announced the Nakheel Harbor & Tower - a tower so tall that it will experience five different microclimatic conditions from top to bottom. Currently planned to be over 1-km in height, it will have more than 200 floors and 150 elevators. When completed, it will be more than 1000 feet taller than the Burj!

Let’s just hope Emaar doesn’t wake up one of these days with a Cialis overdose.
